with + O + C
「OがCの状態で」の意味で次のように使います。
with his legs crossed（彼は足を組んで）、 with the radio on（ラジオをつけて）、
with your mouth full（口に食べ物を頬張って）
文で見てみると、He was sitting on the sofa with his arms folded. 彼は腕組みしてソファーに座っていました。Don’t walk with your hands in your pockets. 手をポケットに入れて歩いてはいけません。
今回は科学英語の中で出てくるwith + O + C の構文をやってみましょう。これは結構多用される構文です。一度覚えればとても便利な表現です。

With the demand for white-knuckle rides into the stratosphere expected to soar, countries are vying to build spaceports for rocket-bound tourists.
成層圏へジェットコースター感覚で行ける需要が急増すれば、各国は競ってロケットの乗客のための宇宙基地を建設するだろう。

With further warming seemingly inevitable, the farsighted are already thinking beyond combating climate change.
さらに温暖化が進むのは避けられないと見られているので、先見の明がある人たちはすでに気候変動との戦いの先を考えている。beyondは「～を超えている、～できない」の意味。

応用例を見てみましょう。
Sales were so good that even with the factory running 24 hours a day we could hardly keep pace with demand.販売は好調で、工場を一日24時間稼動させても需要にはほとんど追いつけなかった。
without＋O＋Cが使われた例
A million dollars was given to the World Wide Fund for Nature without the name of the donor being made known. 世界自然保護基金に100万ドルが寄付されたが、寄付した人の名前は公表されなかった。
